LUCY MARGARET RESTALL
14TH DECEMBER 1930 – 16TH FEBRUARY 2021

Mum was born on Sunday 14th December 1930, the 8th child of 10 children and 5th daughter of Amelia Lucy and Harold James Clue, they lived at “Cartersland” in Milland.
February 1935 aged just 5 years old mum’s father passed away leaving her mother to bring up 10 children aged between 1 – 14 years old, it was a happy loving family home. Along with all her siblings they each attended “Hollycombe” School in Wardley Green and, Milland Mission Hall Sunday School. Times were tough and each child had their duties to perform around the house before and after school. Mum would often reminisce about having to collect and carry the milk churn each morning before school from Park Farm down the lane and up to their house.
During the 1940’s and later part of the war mum worked at “The Links” Hotel in Liphook where she would cycle each day, again she would reminisce in later life of the times she would be cycling down Milland hill after work and sirens would sound, she would peddle like mad to get home and hide under the table, the safest place in the house.
During the 40’s and 50’s mum was a keen stoolball player and played many a game for her local team Milland alongside her sisters Millie and Nora.
In 1949 mum met our dad (Bill) who was the friend of her brother Jim, at the time she was courting someone else but she stood him up to meet with dad. Dad proposed to mum in 1952 and on the        5 September 1953, they married at The Good Shepard Iping Marsh, October that same year saw them move into their first marital house at Knowles Meadow.
May 1956 along came their first born, Jayne followed by Susan in November 1957, the family was by now growing so they moved into a bigger house in Knowles Meadow and along came Mark in February 1960.
Throughout our childhood mum had various jobs, from working in the infant’s school at Rake where we as children were taught plus babysitting various around the local community.  During the summer holiday’s we would have a week away in a caravan on Hayling Island, such fun times we all had as a family, all year mum would save pennies and threepenny pieces (plus the odd sixpence if we were lucky) and off to the arcades we would go.
Over the years the grandchildren started to arrive, first to be born was Chris followed by Natalie, Michelle, Wayne, James, Leanne and Ian. Then off course the great grandchildren, Caitlin, Joel, Connor, Darcy, Preston and Imogen and another on the way.

After dad’s untimely death in July 2013 mum continued living in the matrimonial home that they had shared for near on 60 years of marriage. We all visited as often as we could and mum would spend Christmas with either Jayne or Susan (mum wouldn’t stay at Mark’s because she didn’t like the snakes he kept and was always scared they would escape!!) Like before mum would often reminisce of her childhood and one that sticks to mind and still makes us laugh today was when she told us that her real maiden name was “Glue” not Clue “Glue” when asked why it was changed her response was “well we didn’t want to be known as “Sticky Glue” so we became the Clue’s”.
Sadly in 2019 with mum’s health declining the decision was taken to admit mum to a care home where she lived until January this year, she was admitted to The Royal Surrey Hospital Guildford on 28 January and passed away on 16 February.

There are no words to describe how lost we all are without you, you were a wonderful mother and our only consolation is that you are now back in the arms of our wonderful dad (Bill) whom you missed so very, very much.
Rest in peace our beautiful mum, you will always be on our minds, in our thoughts and forever in our hearts.
Until we meet again.
